DEDHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Karen Read murder trial resumed Friday morning for a fourth day of testimony at the Norfolk Superior Court.

Testimony on Friday began with Firefighter Katie McLaughlin, who was on scene the night that Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe’s body was found. She testified on Thursday in court that Karen Read had said “I hit him” multiple times. Read’s defense tried to poke holes in her memory during cross-examination.

“Respectfully, I think that my testimony has been pretty consistent,” said McLaughlin during a tense exchange with the defense.

Karen Read is accused of hitting her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, with her SUV in a snowstorm on January 29, 2022 before leaving him for dead in the snow. Read has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

O’Keefe’s body was found outside of the home of a police officer in Canton. Read’s defense team argues that O’Keefe was dragged outside after a fight inside the house and that Read is a victim of a police cover up.

On Thursday, jurors heard testimony from first responders who were on the scene when O’Keefe was found unconscious. Some members of the department recall Read saying the words “I hit him,” while others like Francis Walsh of the Canton Fire Department only recall Read saying “Is he alive?”

On Friday afternoon, jurors visited the Canton home where O'Keefe's body was found. It was owned by Boston Police Officer Brian Albert. Earlier, the defense argued that Albert's daughter, Caitlin, was friends with McLaughlin. However, McLaughlin claims they were just acquaintances.
